1,000 Troops Deployed to Aid Hurricane Helene Recovery Efforts

President Biden orders additional military support as the Southeast grapples with the aftermath of one of the deadliest storms in U.S. history.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin authorized the mobilization of 1,000 soldiers from Fort Liberty, N.C., to assist with recovery efforts.
The hurricane has caused over 170 deaths, with hundreds more missing, and has led to severe flooding and infrastructure damage in the Southeast.
These troops will join 6,500 National Guard soldiers from 15 states already involved in search and rescue, debris removal, and aid distribution.
