Nicolas Haddad, a 15-year-old rugby player for Saint-Maximin-Brignoles-Val d’Issole and RC Toulon, passed away on March 18, 2025, after sustaining a head injury during a match in Bastia.
The injury occurred when Haddad's head collided with an opponent's knee during a tackle, causing him to suffer a cardiac arrest on the field.
He was transported to Bastia Hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries two days later.
Rugby organizations have announced nationwide tributes, including a minute of silence during all matches in France this weekend, and have provided psychological support for teammates and witnesses.
