23 Skiers and Snowboarders Rescued in Vermont Amid Frigid Temperatures

Rescue teams hiked 5 miles in single-digit temperatures to bring lost individuals to safety.

  • 23 skiers and snowboarders, including six juveniles, were rescued from the backcountry in Killington, Vermont, amid single-digit temperatures.
  • The initial call reported 7 to 9 lost individuals, but the number was later found to be 21.
  • After the initial group was rescued, two additional skiers were reported lost and were subsequently found and brought to safety.
  • Rescue teams hiked, snowshoed, and skied approximately 5 miles to reach the lost individuals.
  • All rescued individuals were able to warm up in the Killington Fire Department's Heavy Rescue truck and KSAR team members' vehicles while they waited for their rides home.
