23 Skiers and Snowboarders Rescued in Vermont Amid Frigid Temperatures

Rescue teams hiked 5 miles in single-digit temperatures to bring lost individuals to safety.

23 skiers and snowboarders, including six juveniles, were rescued from the backcountry in Killington, Vermont, amid single-digit temperatures.
The initial call reported 7 to 9 lost individuals, but the number was later found to be 21.
After the initial group was rescued, two additional skiers were reported lost and were subsequently found and brought to safety.
Rescue teams hiked, snowshoed, and skied approximately 5 miles to reach the lost individuals.
All rescued individuals were able to warm up in the Killington Fire Department's Heavy Rescue truck and KSAR team members' vehicles while they waited for their rides home.
