Accused Murderer of Beloved Store Clerk and Ballet Dancer Ruled Mentally Unfit for Trial

Taylor Justin Schulz, 44, has been ruled mentally unfit to stand trial for the murder of Robert Skafte, a beloved grocery store clerk and acclaimed ballet dancer.
Schulz is accused of attacking Skafte with a golf club at the Minneapolis grocery store where Skafte worked, resulting in his death.
Schulz, who lived across the street from the grocery store, had been evicted the week before the attack and had a history of assaulting other apartment residents.
Schulz has a history of mental illness, including diagnosed schizophrenia and self-reported post-traumatic stress disorder, and was civilly committed for six months in 2021.
Schulz remains in jail on a $1 million bond and faces a court hearing in July, with the possibility of civil commitment proceedings.
