Adelita Grijalva Announces Run for Late Father’s Arizona Congressional Seat

The Pima County Supervisor emphasizes her father’s progressive legacy as she prepares for a key Democratic primary in July.

Adelita Grijalva, daughter of the late Rep. Raúl Grijalva, has officially declared her candidacy for Arizona's 7th Congressional District seat.
The seat became vacant following her father’s death on March 13, 2025, after a battle with lung cancer.
Grijalva plans to step down from her role on the Pima County Board of Supervisors on April 4, 2025, to focus on her campaign.
She will face Daniel Hernández Jr., a former Arizona state House member known for aiding Gabby Giffords during a 2011 assassination attempt, in the Democratic primary on July 15, 2025.
The district’s strong Democratic lean makes the primary winner the likely general election victor in September.
