Adored Sea Lion Freeway Euthanized After Health Decline

Freeway the sea lion was euthanized due to a progressive disease that caused his health to deteriorate over time.
Freeway had been spotted wandering near San Diego locations before ending up on a freeway median in January 2022.
Freeway was taken to SeaWorld San Diego Rescue Center for rehabilitation and released in February 2022 but found wandering again in May.
Sea lions are protected under federal law, and their population has tripled in recent decades.
Freeway won the hearts of San Diegans with his adventurous spirit, according to SeaWorld San Diego.
