• Andris Nelsons, the music director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO), has agreed to a rolling contract, extending his tenure indefinitely.
• Nelsons has also been given an additional title as head of conducting at Tanglewood, the orchestra’s summer home.
• The BSO has named Carlos Simon as the symphony’s inaugural Deborah and Philip Edmundson composer chair, a newly created position.
• Simon will work across all sectors of the BSO, producing several new commissioned works during his three-season term.
• The BSO is establishing the Boston Symphony Orchestra Humanities Institute, a programmatic arm that will collaborate with organizations and thought leaders across disciplines.
