Android 16 Beta 3 Brings Screen-Off Fingerprint Unlock to Pixel 6 and Newer Models

Google's latest update expands this long-awaited feature to older Pixel devices, enhancing convenience and aligning with competitors.

The 'Screen-off Fingerprint Unlock' feature, introduced in Android 16 Beta 3, allows users to unlock Pixel phones without waking the screen.
Initially available only on the Pixel 9 series, the feature now supports Pixel 6 and newer devices, including budget models like the Pixel 6a.
Users can enable the feature via the Security & Privacy settings, eliminating the need for gestures like 'Tap to Wake' or Always-On Display.
This update positions Google Pixel devices more competitively against Samsung Galaxy phones, which have offered similar functionality for years.
The feature is in its final testing phase, with a stable Android 16 release expected between April and June 2025.
