Annemarie Wiley Condemns 'Racist' Caricature by Instagram Artist
The 'Real Housewives' star calls out the depiction as perpetuating harmful stereotypes of Black women; artist issues apology.
- Annemarie Wiley, a star of 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills', has publicly condemned a caricature of her posted on the Instagram account @drunkdrawn, labeling it as 'racist' and an instance of 'cyber bullying'.
- The caricature, which has since been deleted, depicted Wiley with exaggerated muscles and a bottle of propofol, a nod to her profession as a nurse anesthetist, hanging from her neck.
- Wiley, a former collegiate athlete, took issue with the depiction, stating that it perpetuates harmful stereotypes of Black women as 'combative, aggressive, angry, dangerous, and ‘animalistic’'.
- The artist behind @drunkdrawn, Ryan Casey, has issued an apology on his Instagram page, acknowledging his mistake and promising to 'do better going forward'.
- Despite the apology, Wiley has yet to respond to Casey's statement.
