The injury occurred late in the match after Gordon came on as a substitute and was seen limping off the field at the final whistle.
Following a scan on Saturday, March 22, Gordon was officially withdrawn from the England squad and sent back to Newcastle United for further assessment and treatment.
England head coach Thomas Tuchel expressed concern over the injury, describing it as 'a bit worrying.'
England will face Latvia in their next World Cup qualifier on Monday, March 24, without Gordon in the squad.
