Apple Supplier Luxshare to Invest Extra $330 Million in Vietnam Factory for Supply Chain Diversification
New facility in Bac Giang to produce various smart devices and aimed at diversifying Apple's manufacturing beyond China; total investment in plant now totals $504 million.
- Apple supplier Luxshare Precision Industry Co plans to invest an additional $330 million in a factory in Vietnam's northern province of Bac Giang, increasing the total investment in the plant to $504 million.
- The new facility, which will be on a plot of over 70 acres, is expected to be completed in 12 to 24 months and produce cables for smart devices, communications equipment, touch pens, smart positioning tags, and smartwatches.
- This investment is part of Luxshare’s strategy to further diversify production away from China, and follows their initial investment in Vietnam in 2019.
- Foxconn, another Apple supplier, has also invested in Vietnam, totaling $250 million for two projects earlier this year, aimed at increasing production of components for electric vehicles, telecommunications and other electronics.
- Despite the diversification initiatives, Apple, along with its producers, have maintained a strong commitment to China, with the majority of the company's manufacturing base still located there.
