Assam Government Unveils ₹2.63 Lakh Crore Budget With Focus on Welfare and Growth

The BJP-led Assam government promises expanded social schemes, infrastructure projects, and tax relief in its final full budget before the 2026 elections.

The 2025-26 budget projects a ₹620.27 crore deficit, with no new taxes introduced for the fifth consecutive year.
Key welfare expansions include ₹5,000 crore for the Orunodoi scheme, benefiting 3.72 million families, and new initiatives for women entrepreneurs and students.
The budget allocates ₹3,038 crore for the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan, supporting 32 million women in rural and urban self-help groups.
Infrastructure development includes new roads in every district, a ₹675 crore FIFA-standard stadium, and ₹200 crore for a new Assembly building in Dibrugarh.
Additional measures include electricity subsidies, professional tax exemptions for incomes under ₹15,000, and expanded food subsidies for ration card holders.
