Australia Reveals First Nations-Inspired Theme for Redesigned $5 Banknote

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) announced the theme 'Connection to Country' for the redesigned $5 note, chosen from over 2,100 public submissions.
The new design will highlight the cultural, spiritual, and environmental ties of First Nations peoples to the land, waters, and sky.
This marks the first Australian banknote to not feature a portrait of a monarch, with King Charles III excluded following Queen Elizabeth II's death.
The reverse side of the note will continue to feature the Australian Parliament House, maintaining its long-standing presence.
The RBA emphasized the importance of avoiding tokenistic or stereotypical elements in the final artwork, which is still in development.
