Australian Farmer Survives Crocodile Attack by Biting its Eyelid
Colin Deveraux, recovering in hospital for a month, contemplates job change as the crocodile has been removed
- Colin Deveraux, an Australian cattle farmer in his mid-60s, survived a crocodile attack by biting the animal's eyelid. The attack occurred near the Finniss River in Australia's Northern Territory when Deveraux noticed fish swimming in a stagnant body of water.
- The crocodile, which was 10-foot-long, rushed Deveraux and latched onto his right foot, shaking him like a rag doll and pulling him into the water. The attack lasted around eight seconds.
- In an attempt to fend off the crocodile, Deveraux bit its eyelid and kicked it in the ribs. He described the crocodile's eyelid as thick and similar to holding onto leather.
- After the attack, Deveraux managed to escape and run to his car. His brother then took him to the hospital, where he has been recovering for nearly a month. The biggest challenge in his recovery was clearing out the bad bacteria from his wounds.
- The crocodile has since been removed from the area. Deveraux is contemplating a change in his job after the attack, stating that he has been walking around the swamp country for too long.
