Authorities Seek Suspect in Decapitation of California Sea Lion

NOAA offers $20,000 reward for information on man who decapitated a sea lion at Doran Regional Park on Christmas Day.

A dead sea lion was found decapitated at Doran Regional Park in Bodega Bay, California, on December 25, 2024.
Witnesses described the suspect as a tan-complexioned man, aged 30–40, dressed in black and riding a black fat-tire e-bike.
The suspect reportedly used an 8-inch black knife to remove the sea lion's head, placed it in a clear plastic bag, and rode away.
The act violates the Marine Mammal Protection Act, which prohibits harassment, hunting, or mutilation of marine mammals.
NOAA has offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s identification and conviction.
