Berlin Fanmeile Turf Reuse Falters: Only 11,000 sqm Salvaged

Less than half of the artificial turf from Berlin's Euro 2024 Fanmeile can be reused due to damage and contamination.

The Berlin Senate had initially promised that 95% of the turf would be reused for community sports facilities, but only 11,000 of the 24,000 square meters can be salvaged.
Contaminations from chewing gum and pyrotechnics, along with structural damage from stage installations, have rendered much of the turf unusable.
The Berlin sports administration had anticipated only 10,000 square meters could be reused, but this was never publicly disclosed.
Discrepancies between the sports administration and the event organizer, Kulturprojekte Berlin, have created confusion over the final amount of reusable turf.
Some organizations, like the JVA Tegel prison, withdrew from receiving the turf due to logistical challenges, prompting a new allocation process.
