Berlin Launches Digital Residency Registration to Ease Bureaucratic Burden

The new service allows residents to register their address online, aiming to reduce wait times at city offices and enhance administrative efficiency.

Berlin's electronic residency registration (eWA) service was officially launched at the Smart Country Convention by Mayor Kai Wegner.
The digital registration requires a personal ID with an online function and a BundID account, which has been adopted by about four million people nationwide.
The initiative is expected to alleviate pressure on Berlin's Bürgerämter, where securing an appointment can take over a month.
Despite being operational since mid-September, the system has faced some technical issues, though it reportedly works successfully in 90% of cases.
The digital service is part of a broader push to modernize Berlin's administration, with over 350 online services now available to residents.
