Berlin to Increase Waste Collection and Street Cleaning Fees in 2025

The Berlin city cleaning authority announces a 4.9% average fee hike, citing rising costs and environmental investments.

The Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) will raise waste collection and street cleaning fees by an average of 4.9% starting in 2025, with rates locked in for two years.
Households will see an average increase of under two euros per month, with specific hikes such as an additional 3.11 euros per quarter for biweekly restmüll (residual waste) collection.
Fees for bio, leaf, and garden waste bins remain unchanged, while street cleaning costs will rise based on property size and cleaning frequency, ranging from 1.05 to 10.50 euros per quarter for a 500 sqm property.
The BSR attributes the fee increase to higher personnel costs from recent wage agreements and expenses from CO₂ emissions trading for waste incineration.
Despite the hike, BSR emphasizes that Berlin’s waste collection fees remain among the lowest compared to other major German cities, and the adjustments will support service quality and climate protection projects.
