Berlin Zoo's Panda Twins Take First Steps Outdoors and Begin Climbing

Leni and Lotti, born in August 2024, explore their outdoor enclosure for the first time with safety measures in place to support their development.

The seven-month-old panda twins, Leni and Lotti, ventured into their outdoor enclosure for the first time on March 20, 2025, attempting to climb a specially designed structure.
Zoo staff implemented temporary safety measures, including additional boards and a layer of mulch, to protect the young pandas during their climbing attempts.
In their natural habitat, panda cubs begin climbing at around four to six months of age, with frequent falls cushioned by their dense fur and rounded bodies.
The outdoor climbing structure was funded through public donations, reflecting widespread support for panda conservation efforts.
Daily outdoor sessions between 13:30 and 14:30 are planned for the twins, weather permitting, as part of their developmental progress.
