Overview

  • Berlin's 29-euro public transit subscription is no longer available for new sign-ups as of December 10, 2024, but existing subscribers can continue using it for the remainder of their one-year contracts.
  • Subscribers will be upgraded to the nationwide Deutschlandticket, which costs 58 euros per month, while the Berlin Senate covers the price difference to maintain the 29-euro rate.
  • The automatic transition to the Deutschlandticket requires no action from subscribers, and the Senate plans to reimburse the price difference by early 2025.
  • Subscribers unhappy with the change can cancel their contracts early without penalties, waiving the original 12-month commitment.
  • The Berlin Senate will allocate additional funds to support this arrangement, which could extend into 2025 for contracts starting in January.
