Biden Struggling in Key States, Trump Leads Despite Legal Battles: New Polls
New Times/Sienna poll shows Biden falters in five of six key battleground states, primarily due to dissatisfaction with his economic track record, potentially putting Trump ahead despite ongoing legal battles.
- President Biden is currently behind in five of six key states according to a new Times/Siena poll. Voters suggest dissatisfaction with his economic track record is potentially putting Trump ahead despite ongoing legal battles.
- Economic indicators suggest that the economy is performing well, but just 2% of voters polled rate the economy as excellent. A large proportion of Black voters and younger voters rated the economy as poor.
- Trump is trusted more than Biden to manage the economy across all age groups, white and Hispanic voters, and spans the educational spectrum. This trust extends in particular to voters under 30, a demographic typically aligned with the Democratic Party.
- However, conviction on any of the felony charges Trump is currently facing in four jurisdictions could lose him enough votes to swing the result of the 2024 election. About 6% of voters in battleground states said they would switch their votes to Biden if Trump were convicted and sentenced.
- Interestingly, another Republican candidate, former UN ambassador Nikki Haley, would currently outperform Trump against Biden, according to polls. In a matchup between Biden and a generic Republican candidate, the Republican wins by 16 percentage points.
