Big Bear Bald Eagles Jackie and Shadow Celebrate Third Chick Hatching

The internet-famous eagle pair welcomed their third eaglet early Saturday morning after years of nesting challenges.

The third eaglet hatched on March 8, 2025, joining its two siblings who hatched earlier in the week.
The hatching process for the third chick began on March 6 during a snowstorm and culminated early Saturday morning.
Jackie and Shadow, who have been nesting together since 2018, had unsuccessful clutches in 2023 and 2024 due to ravens and extreme weather.
The Friends of Big Bear Valley livestream, which monitors the nest, saw record viewership as thousands tuned in to watch the hatching.
The new eaglet is healthy and will rely on nutrients from its yolk for the next few days as it adjusts to life outside the shell.
