Bing's Market Share Sees Minimal Growth Despite AI Integration

OpenAI's GPT-4-powered chatbot fails to significantly boost Microsoft's search engine market share, leaving Google's dominance largely unchallenged.

Despite integrating OpenAI's GPT-4 into Bing search engine, Microsoft's share of the global web search market has increased by only 0.56 percentage points in the past year, reaching 3.37 percent in December 2023.
Google still dominates the global search market with a share of 91.62 percent in December 2023, although this is a slight decrease from 93.37 percent in early 2023.
Microsoft's Bing chatbot, now known as Copilot, was initially limited to its Edge browser, which has less than five percent of the global search market across all platforms.
OpenAI's GPT-4-powered ChatGPT became the fastest-growing app in history in 2023, partially helped by a $10 billion investment from Microsoft.
Despite the hype, AI capabilities have barely increased Microsoft's share of the global search market so far, but recent grumbling over the quality of Google's search results could provide an opportunity for competitors.
