Black Teen Shot After Ringing Wrong Doorbell Seeks Justice as Shooter Faces Charges

Ralph Yarl, a Black teenager in Kansas City, was shot in the head after ringing the doorbell at the wrong house while trying to pick up his siblings.
The 84-year-old homeowner, Andrew Lester, shot Yarl without warning through the glass door and initially claimed he thought Yarl was breaking in.
Yarl has recovered physically but continues to suffer headaches, trouble sleeping, and difficulty concentrating.
Lester was charged with felony first-degree assault and armed criminal action and pleaded not guilty but remains free on $20,000 bond.
Though Yarl holds no animosity toward Lester personally, he and his family believe Lester should be convicted for his actions.
