BMW and Mercedes-Benz Announce Joint Venture to Establish High-Power Charging Network in China

German luxury carmakers BMW and Mercedes-Benz have announced a joint venture to operate a high-power charging network in China, aiming to install at least 1,000 charging stations with about 7,000 charging piles by the end of 2026.
The first batch of stations is expected to open in 2024 in regions with higher EV adoption rates, and more stations will be built nationwide soon.
The venture will procure electricity generated from renewable sources where conditions allow, and the charging network will be open to the public.
Customers of both German carmakers will enjoy more exclusive features, such as plug & charge and online reservation for a seamless digital experience.
The joint venture is subject to regulatory approvals.
