Brandenburg Official Raises Alarm Over Rising Antisemitism

Brandenburg's Antisemitism Commissioner Andreas Büttner has expressed concern over increasing antisemitism from left-wing and Muslim communities, alongside ongoing threats from far-right extremism.
Büttner noted a rise in anti-Israel sentiment following the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and the subsequent conflict in the Middle East.
He warned Jewish individuals against wearing visible religious symbols in certain areas of Berlin due to safety concerns, citing numerous attacks linked to migrants from Arab and Islamic countries.
Büttner condemned violence and calls for Israel's destruction during pro-Palestinian demonstrations and emphasized the need for stronger societal and legal responses.
Plans for 2025 include creating a 'Round Table on Antisemitism' to foster collaboration among civil society groups and launching educational programs to promote interfaith understanding in schools.
