Brandenburg Sees Surge in Home Burglaries Over Third Advent Weekend

A double-digit number of burglaries were reported in Brandenburg over the third Advent weekend, targeting homes during nighttime hours when residents were away.
In Potsdam, six break-ins occurred in neighborhoods including Stern, Bornim, and Kirchsteigfeld, with some attempts thwarted by alarm systems or unsuccessful entry.
Valuables such as cash, jewelry, gold coins, and even a safe were stolen in areas like Woltersdorf, Schöneiche, and Glienicke/Nordbahn, with damages totaling tens of thousands of euros.
Police highlighted an increase in home burglaries in Brandenburg, with nearly 3,000 cases in 2023—a 20% rise compared to the previous year, resulting in over €9 million in losses.
Residents are being urged to secure their homes by locking windows and doors, as investigations by the criminal police continue into the recent incidents.
