Brise de Mer Co-Founder Robert Moracchini Assassinated in Bastia

Robert Moracchini, a founding member of the notorious Brise de Mer gang, was fatally shot near his home in Bastia on March 29, 2025.
The Bastia prosecutor has launched an investigation into the killing, classifying it as an organized gang assassination.
This is the fifth organized crime-related homicide in Corsica since January 2025, highlighting ongoing violence despite the decline of the Brise de Mer gang.
The Brise de Mer gang, active from the 1980s to the 2000s, was responsible for numerous high-profile crimes, including the 1990 UBS bank heist in Geneva.
Corsica continues to experience a disproportionate homicide rate, with 18 homicides and 16 attempted homicides recorded in 2024 for a population of 355,000.
