Broncos Fire Coach Michael Wilhoite After Alleged Assault on Police Officer

The Denver Broncos terminated their linebackers coach following his arrest for allegedly punching a police officer during an airport altercation.

Michael Wilhoite, 38, was arrested on February 23 at Denver International Airport for allegedly punching a police officer after being told he could not leave his vehicle unattended.
The incident reportedly escalated after Wilhoite told the officer to 'shut up,' bumped his chest into him, and then punched the officer, who sustained visible injuries.
Wilhoite was charged with second-degree assault on a police officer, obstruction, and criminal mischief, and is scheduled to appear in court on March 10.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton announced the decision to fire Wilhoite, citing the serious nature of the allegations and the team's commitment to addressing the situation appropriately.
Wilhoite, a former NFL player, joined the Broncos' coaching staff in 2023 after previous coaching roles with the Saints and Chargers.
