Bronx Daycare Owner Pleads Guilty to Drug Charges After Toddler's Fentanyl Death

Grei Mendez admitted to running a drug operation from her daycare, leading to the tragic death of a 1-year-old and the hospitalization of three other children.

Grei Mendez, owner of Divino Niño Daycare in the Bronx, pleaded guilty to federal drug charges, including conspiracy to distribute narcotics resulting in death.
The case arose after the September 2023 death of 22-month-old Nicholas Dominici from fentanyl poisoning at the daycare.
Mendez's husband, Felix Herrera Garcia, was previously sentenced to 45 years in prison for his role in the drug operation.
Investigators found large quantities of fentanyl and heroin hidden in secret compartments within the daycare, including under children's play areas.
Mendez faces a minimum of 20 years in prison, with her sentencing scheduled for March 3, 2025.
