Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown Resigns to Lead Betting Agency

After nearly two decades in office, Brown will become CEO of Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation.

Byron Brown, Buffalo's longest-serving mayor and first Black mayor, announced his resignation to take on a new role as CEO of Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corporation.
Brown's new position will offer an annual salary of $295,000, significantly higher than his current mayoral salary of $178,500.
Common Council President Christopher Scanlon will serve as acting mayor until the end of Brown's term on December 31, 2025.
During his tenure, Brown was credited with revitalizing Buffalo's waterfront, improving infrastructure, and increasing affordable housing.
Brown's administration faced challenges, including handling the 2022 blizzard and several investigations into associates, though Brown himself was not charged.
