BYD Launches SEAL Electric Sedan in Japan to Boost Market Presence

Chinese automaker introduces its third EV amid challenges in a hybrid-dominated market.

The SEAL sedan is available in two versions with battery capacities of 82.56 kWh.
Pricing starts at ¥5.28 million ($33,100) for the base model and ¥6.05 million for the all-wheel-drive version.
BYD aims to increase its retail locations in Japan from 55 to 90 by the end of 2024.
Despite previous lukewarm sales, BYD plans to release a new model annually in Japan.
The Japanese government targets 100% electric vehicle sales by 2035.
