The accident occurred when Mateo threw a string of lights over a high-voltage power line, creating a fatal circuit.
First responders found Mateo hanging upside down in a tree and had to wait for utility workers to turn off the power before attempting a rescue.
Despite advanced life-saving efforts, Mateo was pronounced dead at a local hospital about an hour and 20 minutes after the incident.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help fund Mateo's burial in his native Guatemala and support his grieving family.
