Capitol Riot Participant Sentenced to Over 5 Years in Prison

Jeffrey Sabol, who assisted in attacking a police officer during the Jan. 6 insurrection, expressed remorse as he faced sentencing.

Jeffrey Sabol, a Colorado man, was sentenced to 63 months in prison for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection, where he helped drag a police officer into a violent mob.
Sabol's charges include obstruction of an official proceeding and aiding and abetting, federal robbery, and assaulting officers with a deadly or dangerous weapon.
After the attack, Sabol attempted to flee the U.S. by booking a flight to Switzerland but was arrested in New York before he could leave.
Sabol expressed remorse during his sentencing, acknowledging his guilt and stating he would have apologized to the officers if they had been present.
More than 1,300 people have been charged with federal crimes related to the Capitol riot, with over 800 sentenced so far.
