CFP Committee Plans Shift to 5+7 Format for 12-Team Playoff in 2024

The College Football Playoff (CFP) committee plans to shift to a 5+7 format for the 12-team playoff in 2024, with the top five ranked conference winners receiving automatic bids and seven others receiving at-large bids.
The new policy requires conferences to have at least eight members to be eligible for automatic bids, making the Pac-12 ineligible due to its reduced size.
The initial rounds of the 12-team playoff will be played on college campuses, while the semifinal round will continue to feature neutral site games.
The 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship will be held at NRG Stadium in Houston, home of the Texans.
The 5+7 model still requires unanimous approval by the 11 presidents and chancellors who control the CFP, with a meeting expected in early December.
