Child Found Dead; Mother Charged With Endangerment; Safety Agency Accused of Neglect

Jalayah Eason, age 6, was found bruised and unconscious in a Bronx apartment and later pronounced dead.
Her mother, Lynija Eason, has been charged with endangering the welfare of Jalayah's surviving son and daughter, but not in Jalayah's death.
Jalayah's brother was the subject of an abuse and neglect report last year, but the case was closed as unfounded.
The cause of Jalayah's death has not yet been determined.
The Administration for Children's Services has been dealing with staffing shortages and caseworkers in the Bronx North field office have an average load of 12.5 cases, about 17% higher than the citywide average.
