Clashes Erupt in Manipur as Inter-District Bus Services Resume After Two Years

Kuki protesters and security forces face off during the reopening of public transportation in a state grappling with prolonged ethnic violence.

Manipur resumed inter-district bus services for the first time since ethnic violence began in May 2023, following directives from Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
A bus traveling to Senapati district was attacked with stones in Kangpokpi, while security forces used tear gas and batons to disperse protesters, resulting in injuries.
The buses, escorted by a large convoy of central forces, departed from Imphal airport without passengers and reached some destinations without obstruction.
Kuki protesters opposed the resumption of free movement, demanding their concerns be addressed before normalcy is restored.
The state has been under President's Rule since February, with over 250 fatalities reported in the ongoing ethnic conflict between the Kuki and Meitei communities.
