College Employees Fired for Including Pronouns in Email Signatures

Two staff members at Houghton University in New York were terminated for refusing to remove their pronouns from their email signatures.
Raegan Zelaya and Shua Wilmot were told the pronouns violated a new policy and were fired after refusing to comply.
Neither Zelaya nor Wilmot are transgender but had been misgendered in the past due to their uncommon first names.
A university spokesman claimed the school had never fired someone solely for using pronouns in email signatures.
The firings have sparked outrage and accusations of discrimination.
