Colorado Funeral Home Owners Plead Guilty to 191 Counts of Corpse Abuse

Jon and Carie Hallford stored nearly 190 decomposing bodies and defrauded grieving families with fake ashes over four years.

The Hallfords operated the Return to Nature Funeral Home, where improperly stored bodies were discovered in October 2023 after neighbors reported a foul odor.
Investigators found 189 bodies in advanced stages of decay, some dating back to 2019, and two cases of burial mix-ups.
Families were given urns filled with dry concrete instead of cremated remains, undermining their grieving process.
The couple also admitted to misusing $900,000 in COVID-19 relief funds for luxury purchases, including vacations and cryptocurrency.
The Hallfords face sentencing in April 2025, with Jon Hallford expected to serve 20 years and Carie Hallford 15 to 20 years in prison under their plea agreements.
