Raymond Rojas Basilio, a 36-year-old Mexican national, was arrested by ICE in Queens after serving 60 days in jail for molesting a child under 11 years old.
Rojas had been deported five times over a 20-year period but re-entered the U.S. undetected and committed the crime in 2023.
Local sanctuary city policies prevented ICE from taking custody of Rojas immediately after his jail sentence, leading to his release into the community.
Rojas was apprehended by ICE agents on December 17, 2024, and is currently awaiting deportation to Mexico.
