Crystal Palace Striker Jean-Philippe Mateta Hospitalized After Violent Collision in FA Cup Match

Jean-Philippe Mateta, Crystal Palace's French striker, was seriously injured during an FA Cup match against Millwall after a reckless challenge by goalkeeper Liam Roberts.
The incident occurred early in the match when Roberts charged out of his goal, leading with his foot, and struck Mateta in the head.
Mateta, 27, was treated on the field for several minutes, placed under respiratory assistance, and evacuated on a stretcher to an awaiting ambulance.
The referee, following a VAR review, issued a red card to Roberts for the dangerous and uncontrolled play, leaving Millwall with ten players for most of the match.
Mateta, a vice-champion at the Paris 2024 Olympics, has been in excellent form this year, scoring eight goals since January, but his current health status remains uncertain.
