Cyclone Michaung Makes Landfall in Andhra Pradesh, Causes Havoc in Tamil Nadu

The cyclone has led to at least eight deaths, halted factory operations, and forced over 9,000 people to evacuate, with train services in Chennai still suspended.

  • Cyclone Michaung has begun its landfall process near Bapatla on the Andhra Pradesh coast, with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90 to 100 kilometres an hour, gusting to 110 kilometres.
  • The cyclone has already caused heavy rain and flooding in Tamil Nadu, resulting in at least eight deaths and forcing some plants including a Hyundai Motor Co. factory to halt operations.
