Czechs Vote in Runoff for One-Third of Senate Seats

The opposition led by Andrej Babis has the most candidates advancing, while the ruling coalition maintains a Senate majority.

  • Czechs cast ballots in the second round of voting for 27 of the 81 seats in the Senate.
  • Former Prime Minister Andrej Babis' ANO party had 19 candidates advancing to the runoffs, the best first round result for the centrist movement.
  • Five candidates won seats outright in the first round, leaving 22 seats to be decided in the runoffs.
  • The ruling coalition led by Prime Minister Petr Fiala retains a clear majority in the Senate.
  • In a separate vote, ANO dominated the regional elections, winning 10 of the 13 contested regions.
