Daryl Hall Sues John Oates Over Business Dispute
A judge has issued a temporary restraining order preventing Oates from selling his share of their joint venture, Whole Oats Enterprises, pending a court hearing.
- Daryl Hall has sued his longtime music partner John Oates over a business dispute. The lawsuit alleges that Oates' plan to sell his share of their joint venture, Whole Oats Enterprises LLP, to Primary Wave Music would violate their business agreement.
- A Nashville chancery court judge issued a temporary restraining order on November 16, preventing Oates and his trust from closing the sale until an arbitrator makes a ruling or until the order expires.
- The lawsuit was filed after Oates performed solo shows in which he sang songs that Hall was credited for writing. The suit claims that Oates and his team violated a confidentiality provision by sharing their business arrangement in a letter of intent to Primary Wave.
- Primary Wave has already owned a 'significant interest' in Hall and Oates’ song catalog for more than 15 years.
- The case will be heard during a court hearing on November 30.
