DC Plans Multiple Superman Films Set in Alternate Realities

An adaptation of Superman featuring a Black lead written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and produced by J.J. Abrams is still in development.
James Gunn's Superman: Legacy film will launch an Elseworlds label for DC films set outside the main DC Universe continuity.
Gunn confirms that his film and the Coates project are unrelated.
Future DC films like The Batman Part II and Joker: Folie à Deux will also be part of the Elseworlds label.
The Elseworlds strategy will allow DC to tell standalone stories separate from their main cinematic universe.
