Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel Retires from Electoral Politics

Ram Niwas Goel, Speaker of the Delhi Assembly, announced his retirement from electoral politics at age 76, citing health and age-related concerns.
Goel will continue to serve as Speaker until the current Assembly term concludes on February 23, 2025, and plans to remain active within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in a non-electoral capacity.
He expressed gratitude to AAP leaders and members for their respect and support during his decade of service as an MLA and Speaker.
Arvind Kejriwal, AAP's national convenor, described Goel's decision as an emotional moment and emphasized the party's continued need for his experience and guidance.
Goel's tenure as Speaker included significant initiatives such as installing freedom fighter portraits, opening historical assembly premises to the public, and advocating for financial autonomy for the Delhi Assembly.
