Overview

  • A test air raid siren was conducted on May 9 atop the PWD headquarters at ITO, confirming an 8 km effective range and a five-minute alert protocol.
  • Plans are underway to install 40 to 50 additional sirens, with each of Delhi’s 11 districts expected to have around 10 sirens for comprehensive coverage.
  • All sirens will be centrally controlled by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) via a dedicated command center, ensuring rapid deployment during emergencies.
  • The sirens feature advanced capabilities, including GSM-based remote activation, HF radio backup, and inbuilt power systems for blackout scenarios.
  • Delhi Police remains on high alert, increasing patrols and visibility in high-footfall zones, while public awareness campaigns and drills continue to prepare residents for potential threats.
