Democrats Call on Biden to Overhaul Natural Gas Permitting Process

Over 40 congressional Democrats urged the Biden administration to consider the environmental risks of liquefied natural gas expansion.
They want the White House Council on Environmental Quality to develop specific best practices for approving LNG infrastructure.
The Democrats expressed concern that the council assesses LNG permits based on a Trump-era framework that ignores upstream methane emissions.
The letter was led by Sen. Jeff Merkley and Reps. Raúl Grijalva, Jared Huffman, and Nanette Díaz Barragán.
The US's ability to combat climate change depends on whether new LNG projects are approved, the members stated.
