Donna Adelson Arrested for Orchestrating Ex-Son-in-Law's Murder

Arrest follows son's conviction for the same crime, as authorities reveal a failed million-dollar bribe amid a bitter custody battle.

Donna Adelson, 73, was arrested at Miami International Airport on charges of orchestrating the murder of her ex-son-in-law, Daniel Markel, a Florida State University law professor.
Adelson's arrest comes a week after her son, Charlie Adelson, was convicted on the same first-degree murder charge.
Authorities accelerated plans for her arrest when they learned of her plans to leave the country for Dubai and Vietnam, countries that do not have an extradition treaty with the United States.
Markel had been involved in a bitter custody battle with his ex-wife, Wendi Adelson, and had gotten a court order barring her move from Tallahassee back to South Florida with their two young sons.
Authorities say the Adelsons offered Markel $1 million to let his ex-wife and sons move, but when he refused, Charlie Adelson and other members of the family began plotting his death.
