Drunk Driver Sentenced to 12 Years for Fatal Crash That Killed Friend

Karla Dodds, 25, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving after fleeing the scene of a crash that killed Truman Hub in 2022.

Karla Dodds was driving under the influence of alcohol and crammed six passengers into her small Hyundai i10, including one in the boot, before the crash.
The crash occurred after passenger Truman Hub, 22, stuck his head out of the rear window, and the car flipped after hitting a lamppost in North Tyneside.
Dodds fled the scene, leaving Hub fatally injured, and was later found to be twice over the legal alcohol limit during her arrest.
The court highlighted Dodds' lack of remorse, citing her fleeing the scene and a subsequent drug-driving offense while awaiting trial.
Dodds received a 12-year prison sentence and a 13-year, nine-month driving ban, with authorities hoping the ruling brings some closure to the victim's family.
